Cookie policy

This page explains what cookies dotva.com.au uses, why, and how you can control them. We try to be specific instead of generic.

What we set by default

On first visit, we set:

  • dotva_consent — a localStorage entry recording whether you accepted or declined analytics. No expiry; cleared if you clear browser storage.

That's it. No Google Analytics, no third-party advertising pixels, no cross-site tracking. By default, our analytics is set to denied using Google Consent Mode v2.

What we set if you accept analytics

If you click "Accept analytics" in our consent banner, we enable Google Analytics 4. This sets the standard GA4 cookies:

  • _ga — distinguishes unique users, 2 year expiry
  • _ga_* — preserves session state, 2 year expiry

We use GA4 with IP anonymisation and Consent Mode v2 set to allow analytics-only signals. We do not enable ad_storage, ad_user_data, or ad_personalization at any time. We do not use Google Ads remarketing on this site.

What we do not set

We do not use:

  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel
  • Google Ads conversion tracking
  • Microsoft Clarity session replay
  • TikTok Pixel
  • Hotjar or any other heatmap/replay tool
  • Any advertising network's cookies

If we ever add any of these, we will document them here first and gate them behind your consent.

Third-party services

Some of the third-party services we use may set their own cookies on pages where they are embedded:

  • Formspree — sets a session cookie on form submission to prevent spam. Cleared when you close the browser.
  • Beehiiv (newsletter signup) — sets cookies on its embed iframe per its own policy. We only embed Beehiiv where you have consented to analytics.
  • Loom — if we embed a Loom video, Loom may set its own cookies for playback.

How to change your mind

To withdraw analytics consent, clear the dotva_consent entry from your browser's localStorage (DevTools → Application → Local Storage → dotva.com.au → delete). The consent banner reappears on next visit. Or email hello@dotva.com.au and we'll walk you through it.

A small note about cookies

We use first-party analytics (Google Analytics 4) to understand how our content is used so we can write more of what helps you. No ad tracking, no profile building, no third-party advertising pixels. Read the cookie policy for the details.
